The Easy Re-Entry Plan
Catch up on a pile of messages after time away without spending your whole first day back drowning in it.
Beginner10 minchat / email
What you'll need
- Your inbox/messages from while you were away
- Any AI chat assistant
The steps
- Skim your inbox for sender, subject, and a short snippet — don't read everything fully yet.
- Paste the prompt and your list.
- Handle the "do now" items first, ignore the rest today.
- Give yourself the full first day back just for catching up, not new work.
The prompt
I'm back from time away and my inbox is a pile. Below is a list of senders, subjects, and short snippets. Help me triage it. [paste your sender / subject / snippet list here] Sort into: Do today, Do this week, Can skip or archive. For anything time-sensitive that I likely missed a deadline on, flag it clearly so I address it first.
Draft the quick replies
For anything that just needs a short "I'm back, here's the update" reply, draft those for me.
What you'll get
A sorted, prioritized inbox and drafted quick replies — so your first day back is manageable, not overwhelming.
If it's not quite right
- Huge backlog? Add "Just give me the top 5 most urgent things, ignore the rest for now."
- Missed something time-sensitive? Add "Help me draft an apology/explanation for the delay on [item]."
